I’ve extracted one lesson as a sneak preview for you from my Interactive Reading Literature Notebooks and it’s one of my favorites – Theme.
There are 6 pages in this download: one page of teacher’s instructions and notes, three sample pages of how this looks in students’ notebooks (and what the answers are for the two theme activities) and two blank templates for students. In the first activity, you’ll walk students through defining theme as shown above in the first picture. For the second activity, students will use the template in the second picture to analyze theme using a television show theme song! They’ll start by writing topics covered in the trunk, then write themes in the branches, and finally put text evidence to support the theme(s) in the leaves. For the third activity, students will analyze the theme of a really great YouTube clip. After completing these non-literature theme activities, your students will be ready to move on to finding the themes in literature!
This is just one of 22 lessons included in my new Interactive Reading Literature Notebooks for Grades 4-8. It’s only been out for a couple of weeks now, and already it’s become my best seller. It even made the TpT Top 50 Products (All Grades) List this week! I’ve got it marked down in my TpT store so be sure to snag it while you can!
