Don’t you love them? I was very pleased with the effort that most of my students put forth on these.
My husband and I are taking a little mini-getaway (WOOHOO!), leaving this afternoon, spending the night in New Orleans, and, of course, watching the Saints play tomorrow from those awesome seats! I told my students about going to the game this weekend, and do you know what they did? Several girls got together and on Friday they presented me with signs to bring to the game. Now, who says middle schoolers aren’t sweet?
YES, this sign lights up! And another one…
When a student asked for a picture of me to put in the stands for the poster, I gave her my Custom Mini from Teaching in the Tongass!
As for my school week ahead.. I’ll have to come back a few days into the week to share some more good stuff with you. Last week, I got sick, missed a day of school, and I STILL feel like I’m working from behind and trying to catch up. I HATE that feeling of not having it together! Here’s a mini-peek for you:
6th grade – I’m continuing with nonfiction text structure on the side. I’m forcing this stuff into their brains! We’ve started focusing on one structure at a time, and my students are breaking down one paragraph DAILY by putting it into the graphic organizer that suits it. So, each day they are breaking a description paragraph down into a word-web foldable. After we do 5 of them, we’ll move on to a second. I really hope that my cramming pays off in the end with this skill!
We’re also going to read “Just Once” this week – finally – by Thomas J. Dygard. I had it in my plans a couple of weeks ago but didn’t get to it – don’t you know how that goes! After “Just Once,” we’ll read this article from SCOPE.
AND THEN, we’ll read this one:
My 6th grade lessons have been very nonfiction heavy so far this year, but we’ll be switching gears soon.
Oh, and did you catch The Watsons Go to Birmingham, 1963 movie on Hallmark Channel last night? I was so exhausted that I totally forgot about it! That’s OK though – my 7th graders are only about to start reading the novel in a week or so, and I ordered the DVD online through Walmart for only $12 bucks. I can’t wait for it to come in! You can get it here:
I’ve got to pack, but be sure to stay close! Tomorrow’s victory freebie will be a FLASH FREEBIE! See you tomorrow!
